CATALOGUER for Fine Art, Furniture and Decorative Arts

Overall Purpose of the Role:

Cataloguer is primarily responsible for researching, cataloguing and preparing consigned property for monthly catalog sale. This position works closely with the Auction Coordinator and specialist and reports to both the Auction Coordinator and the Managing Director.

Essential Job Functions

(Duties include but are not limited to the following)

• Research property including authenticity, bibliography, provenance and exhibition history
• Catalogue consignments for monthly sales
• Work closely with the Art Handler team to keep warehouse organized
• Liaise with the Photography department for shooting priorities and organizing consignments
• Prepare condition reports of consigned property prior to the auction
• Participate in exhibibition set up with Exhibition Coordinator
• Assist clients in the galleries and back of house as needed
• Participate in auctions, able to fill multiple roles as needed
• Liaise with Marketing and PR departments for promotion of sales and individual items
• Other Duties as assigned by Auction Coordinator

Qualification Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Art History, Decorative Arts or related field
• 2-4 years work experience in Auction, Museum or Gallery setting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication
• Proficiency in Word, Outlook and Excel on PC platform
• Ability to quickly learn company electronic database systems
• Strong typing skills
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Superior ability to keep calm in stressful situations and work in a fast paced environment
• Strong follow-up skills with attention to detail
• Superior client service skills, high degree and understanding of client confidentiality
• Ability to work within a team environment and on your own with minimal supervision
• Spanish speakers preferred , but not required

Working Conditions

• Work is preformed primarily in a gallery and warehouse setting
• Noise level in the work environment is moderate

Physical Requirements

• Frequent movement throughout gallery and two-story warehouse
• Ability to work with fragile objects
• Infrequent light physical effort required
